“The Play’s The Thing”

From our very first production, Anton Chekhov’s The Wood Demon, produced at the Mark Taper Forum in 1994, to our latest offering, Pulitzer Prize winner Annie Baker’s adaptation of Uncle Vanya, exploring and then mounting great shows has been a hallmark of Antaeus.

In 2010, we started programming full seasons. Looking back at these productions — helmed by some of the best directors in Los Angeles, designed by stunningly talented set, costume, lighting, sound, and prop designers, implemented by our superb Technical Director, Adam Meyer, supported by tireless stage managers, dramaturges, choreographers, dialect coaches, violence designers, and musicians, staffed by hard-working box office personnel and the folks in the Office, and starring the superlative actors of our Ensemble, A2 members, Academy actors, Affiliates, and guest artists — fills me with pride.

Perhaps the most important question to ask when curating a season for a company dedicated to the Classics is: “What does this play have to say to us, a modern audience, today?”
